"What is worse than you not knowing who you are? Others
not knowing who you are." ... Linda Paterson
If you ask Linda "Why are you a singer?" She would
say, "As an artist you experiment with different artistic
endeavours and settle when you feel you've found your means
of expression. As an artist, singing is the best endeavour
i do. Singing is my artistic home."
Born in Blyth, South Australia, Linda began singing and
toying with her first stringed instrument - a ukulele - from
a tender age, with encouragement from her parents and recordings
by her father.
Her Nanna loved singing, and played piano with ease. With
her encouragement, Linda's fascination for music continued,
and as a tot she'd climb onto her Nan's piano stool to sing
and play songs.
Linda's love of music found her studying piano sheet music,
and lyrics on album inserts, and writing lyrics before her
teenage years.
After winning back-to-back senior art prizes at high school,
Linda was encouraged by her art teacher Mr Patchett to study
Fine Art and pursue a career as an artist.
One fine day Linda stumbled into the second hand store King
Pawn on King William Street Adelaide and a sunburst Yamaha
acoustic guitar caught her eye and imagination. Returning
with her Aunt Shirley and mother, Linda purchased her first
full-scale guitar which is still treasured.
Whilst studying all art disciplines at art school Linda majored
in Photography, with electives in Film and Video Production.
Linda later enrolled in a new course Experimental Media. Within
this Experimental Media Linda began combining her love of
the written word with music composition, leading her to songwriting
and recording.
Encouraged by her Aunt Shirley and Cousin Helen, Linda at
twenty-three moved to Sydney to continue to pursue her passion
- music, in all its facets.
Linda started her extensive career performing solo at various
events and venues in and around Sydney, whilst co producing
or sole producing albums of compositions.
Linda successfully studied Musicianship over three years
at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music whilst working full-time.
Industry roles whilst in Sydney also included employment with
Total Film & Television, The New South Wales Writers'
Centre, and SBS TV & Radio.
Within her one woman shows, as a member of duos, and within
bands Linda has enjoyed a myriad of experience.
On returning to Adelaide after over a decade in Sydney, Linda
has returned full-time to her musical roots and performs one
woman shows for all occasions for large or small audiences.
Linda is available for one-off, daily, weekly, bi-weekly or
monthly shows.
Linda's repertoire includes a collection of her favourite
songs and hits of various genres from the 1940s to the present.
Linda sings with full instrumentation and accompanied by electric
lead guitar. Linda's original songs include acoustic guitar
and harmonica.
As a singer, Linda is a versatile dynamic artist sharing
stories in song and creating a memorable show to enjoy - during
and long after the show.
Away from music Linda cherishes her time with her dear partner,
family and friends.
